This attachment turns your KitchenAid stand mixer into a citrus juicer, eliminating the need for a second appliance that would take up valuable kitchen storage and counter space. Its four parts--heavy-duty aluminum shaft, reamer, shield, and strainer--are easy to assemble and attach to the stand mixer's powerful motor. Turn the mixer speed to level 6, and the reamer maintains a fast and steady spin. Press your fruit halves against it, and the juice pours out. You do have to exert a bit of pressure to extract all of the juice, but it's certainly not difficult to use. The strainer basket holds back the pulp and seeds as the juice flows into your pitcher. --Betsy Danheim

I used to own a Braun citrus juicer, but after I bought this attachment I understand how much effort I had been wasting. The thing to keep in mind is that instead of having a tiny dedicated motor spinning the juicer thingy (that is a technical term for all you non-kitchen folk) you have this massive KitchenAid motor buzzing along. It does not bog down. Limes, lemons, oranges, grapfruit, and the likes are juiced in less time, with less (arm) strength, and yielding more juice than ever I could accomplish with my old Braun. I don't mean to knock Braun; I think they make a fine product. What we have here is the kitchen appliance equivalant of a tick (if you don't get this association, investigate ticks; they make ants look whimpy).

I investigate most new products before I purchase, using Amazon, Circuit City, etc. The reviews on this product were relatively useless. People seem to be getting a little critical. This juicer is a great product contrary to what the first few reviewers had to say. I had no juice dripping down my arm, I used only the strainer provided which worked very well for me, & if you merely place a glass measuring cup under the spout you are not only collecting the juice, but measuring as well, which you need to do anyways if using the juice for a recipe. The juicer also really gets absolutely every drop of juice from the citrus. I don't understand all the problems some people found with such a simple to use as well as great product. My only negative points are that it does become another item to find space for, & having to wash several parts, & the directions putting it together are foggy. However, a simple rinse does it, you can store it in a Ziploc, & fresh juice is so much more delicious whether you're using it for recipes, like me or are avid juice drinkers. The speed, ease, taste, & maximum amount of juice extracted from your citrus makes this a great product-----plus it's from KitchenAid. Don't let negative reviews steer you the wrong way, you will love this item.
Love it!

I did not have the problem of juice running down my hand because I know the trick to using it. Don't hold the orange against the reamer with your palm under the orange. Use your fingertips and rotate it if necessary to juice fully.
makes homemade lemonade a breeze!

I have a very large lemon tree in my backyard, and used to squeeze juice with a manual juicer, which took quite some time. My husband bought this for me and I absolutely love it. I am able to do about 4 cups of juice in approx. 15 minutes. I do agree that you need to empty the strainer frequently, but frankly that is not a big deal. Occasionally, you will get a squeak, and as other reviewers have said, a little bit of shortening on the shaft will get rid of that....also, no big deal. The fact that I can make a sun-tea container of fresh homemade lemonade is worth the few little inconveniences. It is a wonderful product. If you would like a good recipe for the lemonade it is below....enjoy :) 4 c. lemon juice 2 c. baker's sugar (it dissolves quicker) and fill the sun-tea container with water. for variety, blend in mashed strawberries, mangos or other fruit for flavored lemonade. Have fun with it!
Elbow grease still required...

I rate the attachment 5 stars because it attaches well to the mixer unit, turns as it should, and washes easily.
Now for some objective comments...
1. Effort is still required to squeeze the citrus fruit onto the spinning juicer arc.
2. It still takes awhile to get juice for a breakfast of 4--if there's time savings to be had with this device, it's not as great as you may think.
3. OJ is quick, but large grapefruit take time, especially if you are straining a lot to remove pulp. |
